I just finished reading an interesting article about the “two laws” of the OT. The author bases his whole premise on the following verse:
Nehemiah 21:8 (KJV)
Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.
Somehow he noticed something. There is a set of Laws Mentioned first: “according to all that I have commanded them” Which he points out is embodied by the Ten Commandments.
and another set of Laws mentioned next: “according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.” Which are the laws that Moses wrote in a book.
To solidify his point the author takes us to another two amazing OT Passages.
Passage on the First Set of Laws
Deuteronomy 10:1-5 (KJV)
At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood. And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them in the ark. And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine hand. And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me. And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me.

Passage on the Other Set of Laws
Deuteronomy 31:24-26 (KJV)
And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished, That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying, Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.

I don’t know if you are getting what I’m getting right now..
If it’s true, that there are TWO sets of Laws. One that God Wrote and another that Moses Wrote.. then Guess which one is STILL VALID TILL THIS VERY DAY.
I know it’s very confusing right now.. because all your life you’ve been taught that the “Ten commandments didn’t mean anything, now that we followed the law of Grace.” But its very clear that the Law of Grace is the Fulfillment of God’s Law and it can be summed up simply by saying “Love the Lord with all your heart mind and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself.”
That was the law written directly by God. and Placed INSIDE of the Ark. as a SPIRITUAL LAW.
Then the other laws were laws that God inspired Moses to write. and they were placed OUTSIDE of the Ark, as a WRITTEN LAW.
The Law of Moses or the Book of Law that was placed beside the ark is the law that is Done away with. which is just a SHADOW of things.. Which only revealed our sins. the Law that Condemned. the WRITTEN LAW.
It’s also interesting that Moses Never Enters the Promised Land..
But thats a whole other sermon…
Now you might say “wait wait wait Jose, isn’t it clear that we no longer observe the Sabbath?”
Then I will ask you, “Who is our Sabbath rest?” Do we not remember and observe him? Who has liberated us of the burden and toil of working out that written law? Isn’t that a sabbath unto us? Does it matter if you dedicate ONE day as holy unto God or if you dedicate everyday as holy unto God?
Think about it.
Jesus fed the poor on the sabbath. According to the Pharisees that was “work” and that was forbidden to do on that day. But Was it about the Day or was it about the Love?
Jesus is our Sabbath. Jesus is our God. He is One. Jesus is the Image of God, He is All in All the Way the truth the life, our Rest. Jesus is our “Everlasting Father” “the Great comforter” “like a mother who cares for her young” whom we shall Honor so that our days may be longer..
Then the other part of the Law has to do with loving your neighbors. do not cheat, do not steal, do not covet, do not bare false witness, do not murder etc..
Jesus Christ is that First OT Law.. and He is the Last NT Law.
In between is that Mosaic Law that was like a shell which has fulfilled it’s purpose when Christ died on the cross and resurrected.
Isn’t this liberating??
In light of these “two Laws” there are two kinds of sins.. Which 1 John 5:16 gets into.. But once again this is yet another sermon…
I pray that anyone who reads this may be enlightened.. Lord guide us into that Truth that sets us free.
